James Dean Wants Lansdowne Decision Handed to Newly Elected City Council
For Immediate Release:
James Dean, candidate for City of Ottawa Council in Knoxdale-Merivale, wants to see the Lansdowne decision handed to the newly elected city council.
“We need further analysis and further input from Ottawa residents. A pragmatic approach, combined with the wisdom of the re-elected, and a fresh perspective from the newly elected will define the future of the city. The electorate wants to see great changes at city hall. We need to make this decision based on what the voters want. We will gather this information, and take it to city hall, via the canvassing and election processes.”
“The election process is about choosing someone to represent the needs of the residents. I will be the voice of the people and it is only after listening carefully that we can engage in a process that is economically sound and representative. It’s a tricky balance, but there are methods, such as canvassing or polling, that generating a consensus with which to move forward.”
James Dean’s Vision for Lansdowne:
* Main Library
* Community Center
* Ottawa Art Gallery
* Conference Centre
Trade shows and meeting facilities
* Local Merchant Market for
agricultureand artisans to revolve
seasonally
* Picnic areas with shade, water
fountains,splash pads and
green space
* Boat rental and docking
* Winter: great for Winterlude
attractions and gathering to
warm up.
* Festival Network destination
year-round.
* An arena for the 67’s,
family skates and
skating competitions.
James Dean is in favour of choosing Bayview for the location of a new stadium. Transit issues and economic development in that neighbourhood make it a big plus. Placing the stadium at Bayview will lead to greater resources and jobs in an area lacking in amenities. “We need to think “big picture” for the city. Retail space is a necessity to attract developers for the Bayview area.”
“The bottom line is that this IS an election issue. It will be the new city council that deals with the bidding process for construction, monitors costs and ensures that the evolving needs of the city are met for each neighbourhood. We are stewards of the public interest and their tax dollars. We don’t decorate our homes for the next tenant/owner so why do we want the decision left to those who may be leaving city hall? ”

Ottawa,ON/: March 29, 2010 James Dean Launches the Can You Hear Us Now? Campaign for Voter Turnout!
Today at noon, at Kelsey's (1 Roydon Place at Merivale Road) James Dean, candidate for city councillor in Knoxdale Merivale, will launch his Campaign for Voter Turnout website, entitled CanYouHearUsNow.ca.
This website contains a pledge for eligible voters to take, that they will exercise their right to vote in the upcoming municipal election on Monday, October 25th, 2010. Pledge-takers can print a certificate of their pledge from the website.
Each pledge-taker will indicate in which ward they reside. Statistics will be gathered and periodically Mr. Dean will release these statistics to the media so we can all watch the race to effective government for our city. Which ward will have the greatest voter turnout? The race is on!
Also contained on the website is a Youth Pledge. The youth can take a pledge to exercise their right to vote once they become eligible. "I believe voters are created long before they reach the age of eligibility. It's up to us to teach the young that we can effect change in our community. Political influence begins locally in our communities and most importantly, in our homes. It's up to the leaders in the community to ensure that residents feel that they have a voice and that they can contribute with their votes and through communicating with their City Councillors; and I am that kind of leader."
In the months to come James Dean will have Can You Hear Us Now pledge stations at many local events. There will be Can You Hear Us Now Days where people will honk their horns if they've taken the pledge and small prizes will be available to those presenting certificates at specific locations. At the conclusion of the election James Dean will present a plaque of excellence to the the winning Ward. The award will go to the ward with the highest percentage of eligible voters having taken the pledge. He hopes it will be awarded to the Knoxdale-Merivale Ward.
"I believe that this fun enthusiastic approach to increasing Voter Turnout will generate unity in our city for rural and urban residents alike. It's time we all worked together", said Mr. Dean to when speaking to Ottawa's leaders at a gala birthday celebration for Clarence Dungey at the Marriott on Saturday.
James Dean's candidacy website reads "Your Voice, My Commitment, Our Community" and this campaign falls well within that philosophy. It is his hope that all candidates for City Council will join him in this fun competition to set a good example for all cities holding municipal elections; after all, we are the nation's capital.
